T he Company was originally organized in 1873 as a mutual fire assessment association, under the name “Mutual Home Insurance Company of Logan, Dodge County, Nebraska”, and commenced business on April 3, 1873. It was subsequently incorporated on August 11, 1894. On April 14, 1897, the Farmers Mutual Home Tornado and Windstorm Insurance Company” was incorporated as a companion company, in Hooper, Nebraska, in order to provide windstorm and tornado insurance on the property of its members. On June 21, 1915, the name of that company was changed to the “Farmers Mutual Home Tornado Insurance Company”.
The Company and the “Farmers Mutual Home Tornado Insurance Company” were merged on January 22, 1919, under the current name, “Farmers Mutual Home Insurance Company”. On November 14, 1986, Leigh Farmers Insurance Company of Leigh, Nebraska was merged into the Company.
The Company’s amended Articles of Incorporation provided for perpetual existence.
The Company is authorized to transact the business of insurance in the State of Nebraska only. The current Certificate of Authority authorizes the Company to write the following lines of insurance: Property, Burglary and Theft, Liability, Workers compensation and Employers Liability and Marine.
All policies are issued at the Home Office of the Company which is currently located at 124 North Main Street, Hooper. Business is produced by 120 licensed agencies operating in approximately seventy-five counties located throughout the State.
